DX-pedition to Kihnu Island

On 9-13 July 1998 I took part in the first radio expedition to Kihnu island (ex EU-034, now EU-178), Baltic sea, Gulf of Riga.

ES0K: ES8AF (Alex) and ES8LBH (Yaro).

Our equipment: homebrewed tube trcvr, 100W+PA (20m, SSB);

Yaesu FT-840, 100W (40&15m, SSB);

Kenwood TM-261A, 40W (2m, FM),

ANTs: dipole (40&15m), inv.-"V" (20m), 6-element Yagi (2m).

ES8AF and his homebrewed tube transceiver and power ampilifier. He worked on 20m band.


ES8LBH worked on his Yaesu FT-840 on 15&40m bands also on 2m band FM.


During these 4.5 days we had 1414 QSO with 67 DXCC countries on 40, 20, 15 and 2 m.

Thanks this DXpedition and next expeditions the new IOTA reference - EU-178 was issued to Kihnu island
